Comentários: A dosagem desta enzima é usada no diagnóstico de doenças hepatobiliares. Encontra-se elevada (4 a 6 vezes) na obstrução biliar, colestase intra-hepática e cirrose biliar. Aumentos discretos ou níveis normais são encontrados nas doenças parenquimatosas hepáticas. 
Níveis elevados podem ser observados durante o uso de anticonvulsivantes. Relação GGT/5-nucleotidase menor que 1,9 tem sensibilidade de 40% e especificamente de 100% para o diagnóstico de colestase intra-hepática.
